After an undefeated season The Lady Mats needed to play OK today in the DAL championship to win. Today they played outstanding, their best team round on the season and they take down the DAL championship with a smoking round of 387. At the start of the season the coaches set a team goal to shoot 210 for 9 holes in a match, today the team shot a smoking 200 and 187 in the two nines. Today four players shot in the 70s, and two in the 80s. Kaydee Tu was low round on the day with 73, Kaylen Tu following with 74. Heather Shinn and Harper Orr both broke 80 for the first time with a 76 and 79 respectively. Katie Ingrey had a personal best 85 and Kate Nelson shot 89. First team All League: Kaydee Tu, Kaylen Tu Second team All League: Harper Orr, Katie Ingrey Honorable Mention: Heather Shinn The Lady Mats improve to 14-1 on the season, 9-0 in DAL league play. The team earns an automatic qualifier to NCS at Tilden Park in 2 weeks. Go Mats!
The original league match against Acalanes was postponed due to Acalanes having too many kids sick to play. The match was contested over the front 9 at DAL today. The Mats played awesome and ran away with a 200-285 victory. Kaydee Tu led the way with a 36, followed by Kaylen Tu with 38 and Heather Shinn shooting a career best 38. Senior Captain Harper Orr shot 41 and Kate Ingrey and Kate Nelson shot 47 each. The Mats move to 13-1 on the season and undefeated 8-0 in DAL league play.
The Lady Mats golf team traveled to Boundary Oaks to play Las Lomas in the regular season finale on Thursday. The Mats put up a solid effort and came out on top by a score of 214 to 263.
Kaylen Tu led the way with a 38 followed closely by her sister Kaydee with 40. Senior Captain Harper Orr saved her best for last, posting a career match low of 42 in her final league match. Playing in her last league match Senior Emah Dodd shot a solid 46. Katie Ingrey rounded out the scoring with a 48.
The Lady Mats move to 12-1 on the season and are undefeated in DAL league play with a 7-0 record.
The DAL league championship is Monday at Diablo Creek.
The Miramonte Women’s Golf Team (also known as Lady Mats Golf) is a storied, longstanding Fall sports program at Miramonte High School. Over the years Lady Mats Golf has had great success with multiple league and tournament championships. Most recently, the team won the 2015 and 2013 North Coast Section Division 2 Girls Golf Championship. In 2017 the team finished second in its league and qualified for the NCS Division 1 Girls Golf Championship. If you are interested in trying out for the team, here is some useful information:
Team tryouts start August 20th and the season runs through early November. Practices and matches are Monday through Thursday every week. Orinda Country Club (OCC) graciously serves as the team’s home course for matches, while practices are held at both OCC and Tilden Park Golf Course. Players must arrange their own transportation to practices, and volunteer parents drive to matches. The team roster consists of approximately 15 players, and 6 players participate in matches and tournaments. Prior golf experience is a requirement to qualify for the team.
