Wrestling Winter 2017/2018 Season

By jf 10/11/2017, 7:45am PDT

Hello Students and Parents –

As the winter semester closely approaches, I wanted to encourage the students to consider one of the several extracurricular opportunities provided at Miramonte HS.  For those of you who have yet to choose a winter sport, I ask that you consider the Miramonte Wrestling program.  It is a rare opportunity to compliment other sports and cross train to improve speed, strength, agility, balance, and endurance.  These skills are the core components for all other sports and builds self-confidence.  Coaches will work with the athlete and Miramonte Head of Training to ensure exercises, which benefit other sports, are incorporated into their weekly regimen.

While many sports require previous experience and have limited roster spots, wrestling is open to all.  It is a NO CUT sport and is a compelling addition to college applications. For those students looking to take advantage of the district's new physical education waiver policy, wrestling participation is a perfect option.

Size does not matter.  Wrestling creates a level playing field where a 105-pound athlete is just as important as a 285-pound competitor.  Varsity and Jr. Varsity opportunities are available with no prior experience at any of the 13 weight classes with determination and training.

Training along with the proper nutrition plan will equate to the optimal wrestling weight class.

Our team will focus on nutrition as a key pillar of success and will work closely with the Miramonte HS nutrition expert, Mrs. Anna Foletta, to provide both a plan for the athletes along with the opportunity to customize based on the students focus and needs.

Each participant will set short and long-term goals for the season and with their academics.  Wrestlers will work on improving on problem-solving skills, creativity and the understanding of the concept of risk/reward in sports and life.
