The mighty Miramonte Matador men's varsity water polo continued there recent run of strong outings with a dominating 21-12 win over Monte Vista this weekend. As they have in each of their games during this six game win streak, the MATS started fast. The starters tallied nine goals in the first quarter, while giving up just a single goal. By halftime the lead was 16-3, allowing Head Coach James Lathrop to give extensive playing time to the entire team.
Although it was an impressive offensive display - 14 players scored in the game for the MATS - their defense was consistent and relentless as well.
The MATS hope to avenge their only loss in league play this season when they take on Las Lomas on Wednesday at 7:15 pm at Miramonte. Unlike that contest, in which Las Lomas set the boundaries at the minimum regulation length to offset Miramonte's speed advantage, the course will be at full regulation length and width.
Regardless of the boundaries of the pool, this MATS squad will be tough to beat if they continue to play the way they have been of late - broad-based scoring, relentless defense, strong counter attack, and limited errors. Go MATS!
