Miramonte 41 - Las Lomas 20
Friday, October 21 WALNUT CREEK, CA
The Matadors (6-2) got back on the winning track, spoiling the fun for a big Knights' Homecoming crowd on a lovely evening in Walnut Creek. Las Lomas (0-8) mounted a feisty effort all night, but the potent and balanced Mats offense and a solid defensive effort were too much for the hosts.
Senior Wide Receiver Nick Foster sparked the Mats offense with 10 receptions for 148 yards and 2 touchdowns. Junior Wide Receiver Ethan Fischler added 6 receptions for 111 yards and a TD. Senior Quarterback Tim Tague spread the ball around to seven receivers, completing 26 of his 38 passes (68%) for 345 yards and 3 TD's for a QB Rating of 112.
Meanwhile, Miramonte enjoyed more success on the ground than they have all season. Junior Running Back Peter Stehr carried 10 times for 78 yards and 2 TD's. Senior Running Back Toby Barrons had an almost identical line: 10 carries, 78 yards, and one score. They both enjoyed the big holes opened for them by the Mats' Offensive Linemen: Senior Center Nick Rovetti, Junior Guards Quinn and Kai Rochette, and Junior Tackles Teddy Hoxie and Robin Vanderlaan.
The Knights scored a third quarter touchdown on a Kickoff return down their right sideline, but the Matador defense otherwise allowed just 13 points. Senior Linebacker Ryan Walker had a spectacular game on D, leading all tacklers with 15, including 2 Tackles For Losses. Senior LB Casey McGonigle made 9 tackles, and LB Stehr and Safety Foster added 7 each. DE Barrons had a sack during a spirited fourth quarter goal line stand for the Mats.
