Miramonte Matadors 35 – Alameda Hornets 0
Friday, Sept 16, 2016 ALAMEDA, CA
In a game played on the natural grass of Alameda’s Thompson Field, the Miramonte defense kept their opponent out of the end zone for the second straight week.
The Mats dominating D allowed Alameda only six first downs all night. Miramonte’s tackling effort was led by the Walker brothers: senior LB Ryan had nine tackles, and junior LB Sam had five. The Mats recorded nine Tackles for Loss! LB Casey McGonigle had three TFL, DE Rob Bonar had two, and DT Caleb Casimere, DE Griffin Ansel, LB Jack Hansen, and CB Mason Bell each had one TFL.
Punt Returner Nick Foster had 146 yards on three exciting returns, including two long highlight reel efforts that were only stopped by last-ditch tackles on the Alameda 1 yard line! But alas, the Mats O was unable to convert either of those two First and Goal opportunities into scores.
In fact, the offense looked explosive, but inconsistent most of the night. WR Foster made a nice catch on a 24-yard Fly-Sweep Pass from WR Will Cassriel for one of Nick’s two receiving TD’s. And Ethan Fischler caught four passes for 70 yards and 2 TD’s. But QB Tim Tague was able to complete only 12 of his 27 passes for just 177 yards on an evening when the Mats dropped several catchable balls. Tague nonetheless managed to throw 4 TD’s in just over a half of work. Ben Jungbluth had 4 carries for 31 yards. Toby Barrons gained 22 yards on 6 carries, and caught a pass from Tague for a TD.
