Miramonte Matadors 57 – Mt Diablo Red Devils 6

Friday, Sept 9, 2016 ORINDA, CA

On a lovely fall evening in Orinda, the Matadors dominated the over-matched Red Devils in every facet of the game.  The Mats led 36-6 at halftime, and rested many their starters for most of the second half.

Starting QB Tim Tague completed 18 of his 28 passes for 249 yards and five touchdowns.  Backup QB Xavier Clark completed 4 of 5 for 30 yards and two TD’s, and he added a rushing TD.  Kicker Henry Marken, Center Nick Rovetti, and Holder “X” Clark were a perfect 7 of 7 on PAT attempts.

The Mats dominating defense pitched a shut-out, as the only Mt Diablo score came on an interception that was returned 65 yards for a touchdown.  (Presumably, the Miramonte offensive players did extra tackling drills the following week in practice.)  LB Ryan Walker led all Mats tacklers with 7 tackles, and CB Asim Khan recorded 4.  DE Rob Bonar had a sack, and CB Will Cassriel had his third interception of the season.  DT Caleb Casimere had 2 Tackles for Loss.

Miramonte’s receiving corps was productive all night.  Nine different Mats had at least one reception.  Nick Foster hauled in 5 passes for 71 yards and 3 TD’s, and fellow senior Nolan Brown caught 5 for 88 yards and 2 TD’s.  Ethan Fishler and Toby Barrons also had receiving TD’s.  Barrons led all rushers with 9 carries for 53 yards, and Ben Jungbluth added 37 yards on 7 carries.
